Mostafa Medhati

Who I Am and What I Do?

My Journey

My name is Mostafa Medhati. I’ve been an MD since 1993. While I was practicing in western medicine I focused a lot on respiratory diseases. I’ve always looked for ways to reduce side effects when treating my patients. I discovered that some herbs and traditional methods could treat diseases and help patients get better faster. I began studying and prescribing them to my patients with good results and was pleased with how few side effects there were compared to western medications.

In 2014 I found the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA). Administration and faculty encouraged me to switch from western medicine to Oriental Medicine. Even while practicing in western medicine I had often wondered, “How has traditional medicine worked for so long?” and “What is the philosophy behind these ideas?”.

So to explore and better understand these questions, after 21 years of practice in western medicine, I enrolled as a student at NESA at MCPHS. I studied Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Japanese Style Acupuncture, and Chinese Herbal medicine.

Initially, it was challenging to open myself up to a different way of medicine. However, as I continued to study, I was able to look at the human body from a different perspective. I was able to look at it as a whole, not just at every organ system separately. Working with patients during clinical rotations helped me to believe in this truth. Our body has the potential to heal itself. It’s important to take care of it and maintain balance.

That is the key to traditional medicine. As I’ve studied various forms of medicine, I’ve found that using natural methods, foods, and medicines rather than chemicals and unnatural approaches, is the optimal way to keep the body healthy.

I decided to practice acupuncture and herbs because they are so close to the constitution of our bodies. I’m grateful for my background in western medicine and how I can blend it with my knowledge of Chinese medicine. I’m here to help you restore your balance. When there is any disease or pain, mental or physical, the body is imbalanced.
